Dr. Nappi Video, Weston Sweet Potato Fry Cutter Review Fiasco

TAKE The Ride Of Your Life!

Dr. Nappi Video, Weston Sweet Potato Fry Cutter Review Fiasco
In the pursuit of eating healthier I am always trying to come up with things we may all enjoy and still be more healthy. I really love sweet potato french fries because they are nutritious and yet they are sweet to the taste and like a treat at the same time. You can buy sweet potato french fries in the super market already prepared in packages, but the problem is the all the other things in the package I don't want. Not to worry I am not talking about deep frying. I like mine baked and they are delicious that way. It is also much easier to do and not so much of a hassle like when prepping a deep fryer and then what to do with all that oil when finished. not to mention all the oil that is absorbed by your body, yuck!

Take Alexia Sweet Potato Julienne Fries for example. 130 calories per serving (3 ounces), that's about 30 pieces. 250 mg of sodium, 7 grams of sugar and a list of other ingredients a long of my arm. Also the bag they come in does not say that it is BPA free.  I just want a simple sweet potato made into fries, not all the other stuff. Lastly the price is between 4-5 dollars per bag and I can go through a whole bag in one sitting so you are not really getting that much for the buck.

I buy my sweet potatoes from a farm stand at about $.38 cents per pound so it even saves money and I know i am getting them fresh. Before you ask, no I do not buy certified organic sweet potatoes, there is no need to go through the additional expense. When it comes to potatoes it is not an advantage although the proponents and lobby for certified organic would want you to think everything certified organic is the best for you. If that is the case then why is most of the recalled spinach, lettuce, sprouts, etc., contaminated with salmonella or listeria from those wonderful farm fresh certified organic farms. Hnmmm?   Don't get me started on the whole certified organic versus organic, I will get into that in another writing.

  Back To The Sweet Potato

Back to the sweet potatoes, which I enjoy so much. Anyone who knows anything about sweet potatoes, knows how hard they are and cutting them into fries is no small chore. Not to mention the fear of cutting off a finger in the process. So I went in search of a sweet potato french fry cutter and found the Weston Restaurant Quality French Fry Cutter, watched their video and saw how easy it looked to do. So I eagerly threw down my $93 dollars and was practically standing at the door waiting for the FedEx truck to arrive. Then the door bell rings and it arrived, so the first thing I did like a little child who just got a new, but in this case, a pretty expensive toy, opened it up and got my sweet potatoes lined up and was salivating knowing that in a little while I would be having my perfectly cut sweet potato french fries. But as you can see in my video it just did not turn out that way. I gave this machine the benefit of the doubt in every way possible. I blamed it on my technique, I blamed it on the sweet potatoes, so I went and got more. I tried everything, but to no avail.

I conclusion, it is the Weston Restaurant Quality French Fry cutter that just does not work for sweet potatoes. I fairness, I thought I would try a russet potato and I did get it to go through, but it still was a chore. At six foot one inch, 180 lbs and in pretty good shape, I can only imagine a woman smaller then me trying to do this. If a husband bought this and expected his wife to make him french fries, he might just be handed divorce papers quicker then fries. To add, the weight of this machine if also an issue, and cleaning it is a pain. I give it a thumbs down and am on the search for another solution to my sweet potato fry cutter quest. I will report back to all on my next finding. Hopefully this saves you you're hard earned money, the wait for arrival, and the disappointment when trying to use it. Oh, and the hassle of returning it.

Lastly for those that are asking about yams, well a sweet potato and a yam are the same thing. There are 20 something species of such and the interchange of names has more to do with slang and culture then the difference in the potato.

Nutritionally, sweet potatoes in my case 1 cup 200g ( have an estimated Glycemic load of 17, and IF rating (Inflammation Factor) of 378 which is highly anti-inflammatory. Sweet potatoes are low in Sodium, and very low in Saturated Fat and Cholesterol. It is also a good source of Dietary Fiber, Vitamin B6 and Potassium, and a very good source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C and Manganese.

  1. You can try partially cooking the sweet potato to soften it. Perhaps in the microwave or boi in water. Maybe that'll work.
