I Wonder Why Video 1, The first release in the "Thoughts" series
Launched January 28, 2012. The series will encompass "thoughts" by Dr. Rick Nappi to bring awareness of how important our health is with short videos. The greatest wealth we will ever have in this life is our health. Without health, it does not matter how much wealth we have. No amount of money can buy life back and one example that illustrates this recently was the passing of Steve Jobs. I believe if people put just half as much effort into their proactive health regimen the world would be a much healthier place.Don't kid yourself and get it backwards. The phone bill or rent can wait until tomorrow without any real consequences, but waiting until tomorrow when it comes to your health is a fools play. Keep in mind that without your health, everything can come to a screeching halt and all could be lost in a flash. This is not only true for each individual but it can also dramatically change the lives of those around you.
Lets face it, when it come to your car and it is time for an oil change, most people schedule the time to get it done. Why do you think that is? Because they rely on their car to get them back and forth to work. If that car dies on them it impacts them in many ways, so they take care of it. Take for example the remote control for your television, when those batteries go dead, all things stop at that moment and new ones are put in, even if it means taking batteries out of some other device if new ones are not handy. Am I ringing a bell here, do you know someone who has done that?
Then i wonder why when it comes to our health, we hear more than not, tomorrow, or next week, or I just don't have the time. People are obsessed with their credit (fico) score and God forbid they miss a mortgage payment, or a credit card payment. Why? Because they know it will impact their credit rating and cost them big the next time that score is needed to make a purchase.
News flash for everyone, I wonder why people do not seem to realize that there are more bankruptcies due to medical bills then foreclosures, and may foreclosures are not due to the lack luster job market, but more likely due to a whopping unforeseen medical bill. But is it really unforeseen, or are people just acting like ostriches and sticking their heads in the sand in denial of the obvious. If you do not change the oil or keep the batteries charged in the human body, I guarantee that it will fail you and when you least expect it and at the most inconvenient time. So, I wonder why many just do not seem to get this simple notion to do a little bit everyday in an effort to not become a victim of your own indifference

You are definitely not alone on this, although there are more people acting like ostriches than not. I believe we have been "programmed" to believe that what the government, the pharmaceutical industry and many of the medical community tell us about what is good for us is true and are acting for our good; when the exact opposite is true. Many people take what they are told they need at face value, without question. It's so sad to me to see what happens to people when they hand over responsibility for themselves and their well-being to someone else.
ReplyDeleteI wonder if the "powers that be" foresaw and actually had today's easily controlled society of entitled, mindless consumers in mind when women were encouraged to go back to work and into corporate america; leaving the children in the care of either someone else or to the school system. Maternal influence is so important during the formative years for bonding, socializing and culture. This is exactly why I feel most people have difficulty relating to each other. I think we're on to something here, Dr. Rick!
ReplyDeleteIf I run into the mysterious powers that be, I will ask them. I think we all possess the power to turn on a light switch in our homes, so we have the power to make decisions for ourselves also. It's up to the powers that be within to utilize it or turn it over to the mysterious ones that i do not know.
